During the action to demolish the Pushkin monument on Birzhevaya Square, Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov publicly argued with a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). A video of the conflict on June 28 was published by the Ukrainian edition "Страна.иа ".

The military asked the mayor why the monument to the "adept of the Russian world" remains in the city.

"Why aren't you in uniform?" — Trukhanov pointed out, answering the soldier's question.

Then the mayor of the city asked the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter why he was not on the front line.

On May 7, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said that in Sumy, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the authorities removed a bas-relief and a stele with the dates of the beginning and end of the Great Patriotic War from the memorial.
