The unauthorized mass protest action of the Serbian opposition on Slavia Square in the center of Belgrade gathered about 36 thousand people. This was announced on June 28 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia.

"According to police estimates, there are about 36,000 participants — about the same number as there were at a similar event by the same organizers on December 22 last year, and three times less than on March 15," the agency's website says.

The protesters are students. They came to the square with the slogans "Rock!", demonstrated the symbols of their faculties, the flags of Serbia, and also created noise with whistles, TASS writes.

The protesters demanded early presidential elections and the dismantling of the camp of supporters of the current head of state Alexander Vucic.

Earlier in the day, Izvestia published footage from Belgrade after the start of demonstrations on the Vidovdan holiday, the day of remembrance of heroes and national identity of Serbia. The event was attended by both supporters of President Vucic and protesting representatives of the opposition. Silvana Petrovic, a participant in the protest action, said that the Serbian people "can no longer see or hear the one who stands at the head of power."
