- The Russian Ambassador to Moldova called for a review of the decision to close the Russian House

Russia hopes that Moldova will reconsider the decision to close the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC, Russian House) in Chisinau in order to preserve the cultural dialogue between the countries. This was announced on June 28 by Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov.
He noted that the closure of the named institution contradicts the country's statements about the support of Russian culture.
"If this culture is truly valued as part of the world heritage, it would be logical to facilitate the work of the Center. We hope that this decision will be reviewed in order to preserve the cultural dialogue between Russia and Moldova," the diplomat said in a comment to the Moldovan channel Canal 5.
Ozerov added that the center organizes cultural exchanges, exhibitions, concerts, and supports students. Through his work, he promotes the strengthening of ties between peoples and poses no threat to the security of Moldova.
"Cultural institutions of other countries operate in Moldova, and no one restricts them. Only the RCSC was under pressure, despite the fact that it was not charged with violating the law," the ambassador said.
Ilan Shor, the leader of the Moldovan opposition political bloc Pobeda, said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 20 that the attempt to close the Russian House in Chisinau was coming not from the country's authorities, but from Western states. Shor believes that such measures are aimed at weakening ties between Moldova and Russia, however, according to him, it is impossible to break these ties.
On May 27, the Party of Socialists of Moldova condemned the decision of the parliamentary commission to gradually denounce the agreement with the Russian Federation on the activities of cultural centers, including the Russian House. In addition, the Socialists stated that they consider this step as a manifestation of Russophobia. Cooperation with the RNCC, in turn, has brought many benefits to Moldovan youth who have had the opportunity to study in the Russian Federation.
