On June 28, Ramona Petravic, a member of the Latvia First Party, called for the country's Constitution to enshrine the provision on the existence of only two sexes.

"Two sexes is populism. Is one hundred sexes not populism?" said Petravicha at the Riga LGBT parade (the movement is banned in Russia and recognized as extremist), commenting on the words of Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina that the binary model of sexes is outdated.

According to her, the claims about "hundreds and thousands" of sexes are absurd, and the vote in the Seimas showed that society has no unity on this issue. Petravicha recalled that the faction of the Green Union supported the amendments on two sexes, for which it was sharply criticized by the Progressive Party for violating the coalition agreement.

The MP stressed that no one fully understands how many genders the coalition agreement allows, but it is obvious that this issue has become the cause of a political conflict. She also ironically noted that the prime minister "got lost among all these forget-me-nots and violets" and soon even those who consider themselves "an alien from the last century" will have to take their interests into account.

Earlier, on January 25, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he intends to consolidate in the Constitution of the republic the provision on the recognition of only two sexes - male and female.
