In Romania, an 18-year-old young man died from a lightning strike while playing an electric violin, when he was in the courtyard of his house in the village of Aninoasa in Gorj county. This was reported by the newspaper Adevarul on June 28.

"Liviu Dobre, a 12th grade student at the Theological high School in Targu Jiu, was struck by lightning while playing the violin at home. The electric shock turned out to be fatal," the media writes.

The press service of the Gorj county police clarified that the tragedy occurred the night before. The incident occurred during an event on the occasion of the student's coming of age. The young man was in the courtyard of a building in the Katunele commune and was playing an electric violin connected to an amplification station. According to eyewitnesses, a thunderstorm was raging in the area, and lightning struck the house in front of which the musician was standing.

According to a spokesman for the Gorges County Ambulance, the boy was found with cardiac and respiratory arrest. Upon arrival, the doctors performed intensive care for more than an hour, but to no avail.

The police have opened a criminal case on manslaughter. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the tragedy.

On June 24, at least 20 people were injured in the U.S. state of South Carolina when lightning struck a lake. Rescuers found signs of electric shock in eight adults and 12 minors.
