The British authorities seized a shipment of cocaine weighing 2.4 tons and worth about £100 million ($137.2 million) in one of the country's ports. This was reported on June 28 by the Sky News channel.

The cargo was found under containers on a ship arriving from Panama at the London Gateway Port in Thurrock, Essex.

"This seizure, one of the largest of its kind, is just one example of how dedicated marine border force officers are always one step ahead of criminal gangs that threaten our security," said Charlie Eastoe, head of the UK Border Service.

According to the agency, this shipment is the sixth largest seized cocaine smuggling in the history of the UK.

According to the latest figures from the UK Home Office, cocaine-related deaths in England and Wales increased by 31% between 2022 and 2023.

The day before, it was reported that the Mexican Navy intercepted and detained a submarine belonging to drug traffickers, which was carrying 3.5 tons of cocaine. It was clarified that the interception of the boat caused financial damage to organized crime in the amount of 800 million pesos ($42.5 million).
