Google must pay all fines, return to the Russian Federation and begin a technological upgrade in order to "revitalize" YouTube video hosting. Anton Gorelkin, First deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, told RIA Novosti about this on June 28.

"YouTube is slowly starting to die technologically in Russia. And in order to revive it, Goggle must pay fines, return to Russia and begin the technological upgrade of its CDN network," the deputy said.

According to him, video hosting traffic continues to decline. Gorelkin stressed that the slowdown of YouTube has given a good impetus to the development of domestic platforms.

"And I hope that our video hosting companies will take advantage of this unexpected gift... After all, some of them will be able to compete not among local players, but will impose competition on the American dominant," the parliamentarian concluded.

On June 16, Roskomnadzor (RCN) stated that there are currently no grounds to lift restrictions from YouTube and Instagram (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
