Bloating, or flatulence, is associated with a problem with the digestive system. The cause of excessive gas formation is most often the excessive consumption of certain foods. About which foods contribute to bloating, June 28, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Evgenia Zarubina, a gastroenterologist at SM Clinic.

The doctor noted that the main products that cause flatulence are carbonated drinks and sweets. This is due to the fact that these products contain a high concentration of sugar, which in large quantities serves as a breeding ground for certain fermenting bacteria in the intestine, and therefore there is a direct relationship between sugar consumption and bloating.

The gastroenterologist named legumes, cabbage and broccoli among the products that cause excessive gas formation.

"Legumes such as beans, peas, chickpeas, and lentils contain a lot of plant fiber. When these fibers are processed by bacteria, gases are released in the intestine, which causes bloating," said Zarubina.

In people with lactose intolerance, a similar problem occurs when dairy products are included in the diet.

The specialist warned that excessive consumption of protein foods can activate putrefactive processes in the intestine, accompanied by the formation of gases.

However, according to Zarubina, the problem of flatulence is not always associated with an unbalanced diet. Sometimes bloating signals a malfunction of the digestive system. In this case, the doctor recommended that you seek help from specialists.

"It is especially important to do this if additional warning signs are observed along with bloating: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, mucus or blood in the stool, unreasonable weight loss," the expert explained.

Earlier, on June 23, nutritionist Ekaterina Guzman spoke about the contraindications to the consumption of green peas. The expert noted that peas can irritate the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines, so you should not overeat them for gastritis, peptic ulcer and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
