Modern weight loss drugs have become an effective method for rapid weight loss, but they can adversely affect the functioning of the human body. About this on June 27, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by endocrinologist and Doctor of Medical Sciences Maria Matveeva.

According to the doctor, there are drugs whose side effect affects the digestive system, and some of them negatively affect brain function.

"For example, the drug orlistat prevents the absorption of fats in the intestine. However, taking it may be accompanied by digestive disorders," Matveeva said.

The expert noted that sibutramine-based drugs can harm patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Matveeva stressed that weight loss drugs are not a universal means of losing weight and are prescribed strictly for medical reasons.

Earlier in the day, a nutritionist at the Performance Food service, a nutritionist, and an expert in the field of healthy nutrition, Tatiana Meshcheryakova, spoke about the dangers of intermittent fasting. The expert noted that intermittent fasting involves long periods without food, which can lead to a lack of essential nutrients.
