King Philippe of Belgium, his wife Mathilde and the delegation cannot return home from Chile after a state visit that ended on June 26 due to a technical problem with the plane. This was announced on June 27 by the 7sur7 portal.

"The king, Queen, ministers and delegation will be stuck in Chile for a while, where a state visit was held. The plane, which was planning to return to Belgium, has not yet been given the green light, which makes it impossible to return on Friday," the portal said.

According to 7sur7, when the royal couple and other representatives of the delegation were already on the plane, there was a problem with the tow truck, which damaged the landing gear tires.

"The Queen and I have decided to stay with you, in good agreement with the ministers. <...> We are doing everything to resolve the situation. The Titanic has not sunk yet, we are staying on board," the portal quoted King Philip as saying.

Earlier, on January 17, 2024, former US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was unable to leave Switzerland on time after participating in the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos due to a "critical malfunction" of the aircraft. As a result, he was sent to the United States by a smaller aircraft.
