Archbishop Ajapakhyan refused to run for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia

Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan, who has been detained in Armenia, does not want to see his name on the list of candidates for the post of Prime Minister of the republic. This is stated in the priest's appeal, published on the Facebook page of his lawyer Ara Zohrabyan (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
"I am completely satisfied with my service as a clergyman, so I ask you not to mention my name in the list of candidates for the post of prime minister," the archbishop said.
Earlier in the day, the opposition parliamentary bloc Armenia announced its support for the initiative of politician Edmond Marukyan to nominate Archbishop Ajapakhyan as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of the republic as part of the impeachment process of the current head of government Nikola Pashinyan.
Ajapakhyan was detained on June 27. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case against him on calls to overthrow the government in Armenia.
Before that, there was a scuffle between police officers and priests near the residence of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. It was clarified that the security forces tried to detain Ajapakhyan, but believers and priests did not allow him to be taken away.
