The US Treasury Department has extended permission for Russian banks to conduct nuclear energy transactions.

The U.S. Treasury Department has extended the validity period of a general license allowing a number of Russian sanctioned banks to conduct operations in the field of civil nuclear energy. The relevant document was published on the website of the American financial Department on June 27.

According to the license text, transactions related to the maintenance of civilian nuclear projects will be allowed until December 19, 2025. The license is extended to Sberbank, VTB, Alfa-Bank and a number of other credit institutions.

The Finance Ministry stressed that the measure is aimed solely at maintaining the operation of civilian nuclear projects and does not remove other existing restrictions under the sanctions regime.

On May 30, Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International organizations in Vienna, said that Russia and the United States are cooperating in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, despite anti-Russian sanctions. According to him, the Russian side supplies enriched uranium products to the United States, as well as isotope products for medical and industrial purposes.
