At the request of the Russian side, the Peruvian authorities decided to extradite Joseph Adciti, who is accused in Russia of organizing the smuggling and shipment of a large shipment of cocaine. This was reported on June 27 on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, Adciti, as part of an organized group, participated in an illegal scheme of sending and smuggling drugs through hiding places in containers with bananas, which were transported by sea from Ecuador to St. Petersburg. Then the drugs were transported across the border of Russia and Georgia to Turkey. The total weight of the seized cocaine exceeds 89 kg.

The group's criminal activities were suppressed in 2015, and its active members were detained and convicted. Adciti managed to escape and was put on the international wanted list in 2017. In January of this year, after his detention in Peru, the Russian side sent an official extradition request.

The Prosecutor General's Office stressed that thanks to coordinated work with the competent authorities of Peru, the decision on extradition was made as soon as possible. Transit through Panama and Turkey has been agreed to bring the accused to Russia.

"Accompanied by employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the National Interpol Bureau of the Russian Interior Ministry, the accused will be taken to Moscow," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
