Lukashenko appreciated Russian cars

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called Russian cars "normal", adding that the Russian car industry has not yet reached the level of Mercedes-Benz. The Belarusian leader said this while speaking at the Eurasian Economic Forum in Minsk on June 27.
"Take the Lada, Moskvich... "Zhiguli," as we called them. There are normal cars. Well, maybe not Mercedes yet, but there are good cars," Lukashenko said.
Using the example of the automotive industry, the President of Belarus stressed the importance of preserving the industrial heritage of the USSR, which "still breathes today." Lukashenko pointed out that in Soviet times, industry was traditionally at a high level, including the automotive industry.
Earlier, on April 11, Alexander Lukashenko said that Russia and Belarus should strengthen import substitution processes within the Union State. He noted that in three to four years the domestic car industry will be able to surpass the level of Mercedes-Benz.
