- The Interior Ministry warned about the scheme of scammers with calls allegedly from Vodokanal

Fraudsters began to use a new scheme to deceive Russians using calls on behalf of Vodokanal. This was announced on June 27 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"From the very first minute of the conversation, they create a complete illusion of legitimate "working" contact for the victim. The whole dialogue is built around the supposedly necessary visit of a specialist to the house — for checking water meters or urgent work," the department's Telegram channel says.
During the conversation, the scammers discuss with the victim the details of the employee's alleged upcoming visit, including the time, necessary documents, and more. At the same time, the attackers do not request personal data, do not require money and do not exert pressure. Later, a false employee of Vodokanal asks for the SMS code, allegedly in order to confirm the registration of the application.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that Vodokanal employees do not request codes and personal data, and the visits themselves take place only upon request.
On June 17, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that government agencies can only call citizens by phone number, without using messengers and social networks, and will not ask them to dictate a code or password. The agency clarified that only fraudsters require to transfer or transfer money.
