The closure of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Krakow is an act of openly unfriendly actions on the part of the Polish authorities. Andrei Ordash, Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Poland, told Izvestia on June 27.

"The Russian side regarded such actions by Warsaw as frankly unfriendly, and the stated reasons for closing the Consulate General as absurd," he said.

According to the diplomat, this is another step by the Polish side, which is aimed at the deliberate degradation of bilateral relations. He stressed that such steps would not remain without an adequate response from Russia.

The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Krakow stopped its work earlier in the day. Ordash stressed that the parties had already signed the latest documents, and the Consulate General building had been handed over to the Polish side.

On May 12, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced that he had decided to withdraw his consent to the work of the consulate in Krakow. He clarified that the closure was due to the alleged actions of the Russian special services, which the Polish authorities accused of starting a fire in a shopping mall in Warsaw.
