On his birthday, June 27, Vladimir Yangorev, a centenarian veteran of the Great Patriotic War, was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky at the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School, where he joined back in 1949.

Yangorev joined the front when he was 17 years old. He took part in 50 military parades. The veteran served in the country's armed forces for almost 44 years, retiring with the rank of colonel.

Yangorev joined the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School in 1949. At first, he was a platoon commander for two years, a company commander for ten years, a teacher for seven years, and a battalion commander for 17 years.

Yangorev raised several generations of cadets, and young officers still look up to him and call him a "commander from God." On the veteran's birthday, he was greeted with a solemn ceremony and presented with the Order of Alexander Nevsky, which had previously been awarded to him by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"I consider myself lucky here. So many guys. How they are helping me now," Yangorev emphasized.

As Dmitry Mironov, assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, noted, the veteran never lost touch with the school.

"He is truly a father commander, from the category of those commanders who bring up not only harsh military discipline, teach military science to cadets, but also simply was a father," the presidential aide said.

Earlier, on June 4, the Department of the Russian Guard for the Rostov region held a solemn event in honor of the 100th anniversary of the veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) Peter Golyshkin, who participated in the storming of the Reichstag. It was clarified that for his exploits committed during the Second World War, he received the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medals "For the capture of Berlin", "For the liberation of Warsaw", "For the Victory over Germany in WWII 1941-1945."
