Among Russians who have established a self-ban on loans, 56% are satisfied with the innovation and continue to use the established restrictions. In particular, more than 20% admitted that they did it to protect themselves from their own relatives. This is stated in a study by the financial marketplace <url>, the results of which were reviewed by Izvestia on June 30.

At the same time, 18% of respondents have already lifted the ban due to the need for borrowed funds, and 9% abandoned the restrictions almost immediately, admitting that they did not fully understand the consequences of their decision. The remaining 17% have self-locked themselves in the last month and are still evaluating its effectiveness.

The study revealed several main reasons that prompted Russians to set financial restrictions. 37% of respondents indicated that they had previously been victims of fraudsters who tried to apply for loans in their name. Especially revealing was the fact that more than 20% of this group admitted that the main purpose of installing a self-lock was to protect themselves from their own relatives, who repeatedly tried — and often successfully — to apply for loans using their personal data.

"29% of the survey participants consider self-locking as a tool of financial discipline, helping to change habits and learn how to manage a budget competently. Another 26% followed the general trend, setting restrictions for preventive purposes, despite the lack of negative experience with scammers. The remaining 8% found it difficult to answer," the analysts said.

They also noted the gender and age characteristics of using the new tool. Women aged 30-35 years are most often self-locking for preventive purposes. Those who have faced fraud are mostly women aged 37-45.

A service with the ability to prohibit the issuance of loans to oneself has been launched on the Gosuslugi portal since March 1. Those who have submitted such an application have a special mark in their credit history, in the presence of which banks and microfinance organizations must refuse a person in the case of a loan application.
