Millennials and Generation X prefer crossovers when buying a car, while zoomers choose budget sedans. Like the boomers, their most popular model is the Lada Granta. However, the latter often take it new, and zoomers are content with cars older than 10 years. <url> analysts told Izvestia about this on June 30, who studied user activity for the first half of 2025 to determine how age affects the choice of car.
It turned out that zoomers (generation from 1997 to 2010) show the highest relative interest in hybrid and electric cars, but their financial situation pushes them into the segment of the most affordable cars, dominated by models of the past with gasoline engines. It is the zoomers who more often than other generations (in 39% of cases) choose cars older than 15 years.
If the other generations have focused on crossovers, the sedan remains the main car for zoomers (41.4% of interest), while for generation X this figure is only 22.5%. Their top five brands are led by Lada, where Granta and rear-wheel drive 2107 and 2104 are adjacent. At the same time, they dream of vivid emotions more than other generations: they account for the maximum interest in coupes, convertibles and roadsters, experts noted.
The study notes that the top interests of millennials (about 29-44 years old) are slightly used BMWs, especially the 5-series, and practical Toyota Camry. Generation X (45-59 years old) is called the main connoisseur of diesel engines (17.3% of interest), as well as spacious and utilitarian cars.: This generation shows the highest interest in crossovers (48.2%) and minivans. The leader of their preferences is the reliable Toyota, in particular the RAV4.
Boomers (over 60 years old) prefer familiar brands and models, appreciating ease of maintenance. Lada models are leading the way in their top — both new ones like Granta and Vesta, as well as classic 2107 and Niva. They are followed by Toyota models.
