The first sign of an imminent breakdown of a manual transmission is problems with shifting — the lever moves with effort, a crunch or a screech is heard, and the gears turn on indistinctly. This was announced on June 27 by Vadim Strelbitsky, Director of the Avilon Kia Mechanical Repair Department.

"In robotic gearboxes, similar problems are manifested by delays in shifting, jerks or "dips" between gears. Most often, this indicates problems with the clutch, wear on the synchronizers, or a lack of transmission fluid," the Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Strelbitsky as saying.

Malfunction signals of "automatic machines" and variators are usually jerks during acceleration, a slip or a delay before starting to move. A particularly alarming sign is when the car jerks when shifting gears, the specialist pointed out. This may indicate friction wear, problems with the hydraulic unit, or low oil pressure in the system.

Possible wear on bearings, gears, or lack of oil may be indicated by a hum, rattle, or vibration that increases as speed increases, as well as a metallic knock in neutral gear (in mechanical transmissions). The problem can be visually identified by leakage of transmission fluid — red or brown oil stains under the car, the expert pointed out.

The day before, car expert Konstantin Ozhogin said that short trips of less than 10-15 km can have a more negative impact on engine oil life than an hour-long trip along the highway. The specialist explained that it is necessary to focus on the timing of engine oil replacement not by mileage, but by operating hours.

On May 27, Alexey Pavlovich, Director of production at Forsage Group, said that after the departure of leading foreign brands and the disruption of logistics chains, the Russian market was flooded with counterfeits. The proportion of fake oil, according to expert estimates, now exceeds 50%.
