Syria is facing the worst drought in recent decades, which could cause 16 million people to face food shortages. This was announced on June 27 by the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Syria, Abu Assaf.

"The shortage of wheat grain is expected to amount to 2.5-2.7 million tons, which will put the food security of Syria at risk," the Syria News agency quoted him as saying.

It is specified that up to 16.3 million people may face food shortages. Abu Assaf stressed that Syria has not experienced such weather conditions in the last 60 years.

On May 20, the press service of the Gaza Strip authorities stated that the situation in the enclave was catastrophic. It is specified that over the past 80 days, more than 320 people have died due to hunger and lack of medical care.
