Swedish criminal Clark Olofsson, who became one of the key participants in the 1973 bank robbery and hostage-taking, has died at the age of 79. This was reported on June 27 by the Dagens ETC newspaper with reference to the criminal's family.

"Clark Olofsson died at the age of 78. He was one of Sweden's most famous and notorious criminals of all time. He died in Arvik hospital on Tuesday after a long illness," the article says.

During his life, he spent more than 40 years behind bars for armed robberies, drug trafficking and other crimes, but the bank robbery in central Stockholm on August 23, 1973 brought him worldwide fame.

It is clarified that the six-day siege of the bank led to a phenomenon called the "Stockholm syndrome." The hostages, finding themselves on the side of their captors, began to defend them even after their release. Subsequently, this concept became firmly established in criminology and psychology.
