- Kovalchuk pointed out the importance of installing a nuclear power plant on the moon for its development

The first person to master the moon will be the one who puts a nuclear power plant (NPP) on it — the only real source of energy that is designed for long-term operation. This was announced on June 27 by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
"The main thing is to get comfortable there, you need energy...>There is no alternative to nuclear energy. The moon will be mastered by the one who puts the first nuclear power plant there," he said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
As the head of the Kurchatov Institute reminded, Russia should prepare the first nuclear power plant to be installed on the Moon by 2030.
He noted that the Earth's satellite should become a "hub" for testing technologies that can be used to fly into deep space. Such technologies can become an exclusive advantage for the Russian Federation.
On June 13, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov announced that Russia plans to deliver low-power nuclear power plants to the Moon. He noted that all technologies must first be tested on the Moon, and then move to other planets. A small nuclear power plant will provide energy to a space station on the moon, as well as develop technologies for further space exploration.
