- Overchuk informed about the preparation of Armenia's letter on the contradictions between the EU and the EAEU

Russia is preparing a letter for Armenia on the contradiction of its norms on rapprochement with the European Union (EU) to the rules of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was announced on June 27 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.
"I'm going to sign a letter addressed to my colleague [the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia]. Gera Herbertovich said that in our opinion these actions contradict the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union," Overchuk said.
He added that it is impossible for Armenia to be in both the EAEU and the European Union at the same time, but the Russian side will always respect the choice of the Armenian people.
In addition, according to him, the EAEU will also consider measures so that, due to Armenia's rapprochement with the EU, goods that do not meet the requirements of the association are not trampled on the market.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on June 13 that the republic would not be able to be a member of the EAEU and the EU at the same time. He noted that the government would continue to implement reforms aimed at bringing it closer to EU standards.
Prior to that, Pashinyan indicated on May 7 that Armenia was not going to worsen relations with Russia while building contacts with the West. He noted that the country is guided by a balanced foreign policy, which does not envisage building ties with some states at the expense of deteriorating relations with others.
