The German authorities intend to legally prohibit the sale of Nord Stream 2 in order to prevent the resumption of its operation. This was reported by Bloomberg on June 27.

"The German government is considering measures that could help it stop the potential sale of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline after speculation surfaced earlier this year about the resumption of pipeline gas supplies from Russia," the publication says.

According to Bloomberg, the German foreign trade law currently does not allow the authorities to ban the sale of the struggling company Nord Stream 2 AG, so the government wants to amend the legislation to have the right to veto the deal.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on May 28 that the German authorities would do everything to prevent the resumption of operation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. He said that Germany will continue to increase pressure on Russia in the field of tightening sanctions.
