In May 2025, the average amount of car loans issued amounted to 1.27 million rubles, which is 9.6% lower compared to the same period last year. This was announced on June 27 by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).

At the same time, compared to the previous month, the average check of car loans issued increased slightly (by 0.9%). Analysts noted that this indicator has been growing for the third month in a row. The largest average amount of car loans issued in the regions of the Russian Federation in May was recorded in Moscow (1.72 million rubles) and the Moscow Region (1.56 million rubles) and in St. Petersburg (1.49 million rubles).

The strongest reduction in car loans over the year was noted in Voronezh (-14%), Kaluga (-12.8%), Tula (-12.6%) and Chelyabinsk (-12.3%) regions, as well as in Moscow (-12.2%). Among the top 30 regions, this indicator has increased over the past year only in the Irkutsk region (+7.8%).

The low values relative to last year are explained by cheaper car loans, a change in the market structure in favor of more budget-friendly cars, and subsidized rates from automakers.

On June 16, it became known that in the first half of the month, prices for new cars changed for seven brands officially represented in Russia. At the same time, cars from only three brands have risen in price.

On June 9, it was reported that 90.9 thousand car loans were issued in Russia in May 2025. This is 44.5% less than in the last month of last spring.
