- The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out the illogic of NATO's message about the "Russian threat"

NATO countries, promoting the myth of an alleged possible Russian attack on Europe in 2030, are confused in their statements, as they expect to increase defense spending only by 2035. Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Problems at the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced this on June 27 at the Valdai International Discussion Club.
"If the population is convinced that Russia must attack by 2030, then why the European Union (EU) is going to fully prepare for this threat only by 2035 is not entirely clear," he said in a speech published on the club's website.
He stressed that NATO countries use the myth of the threat from Russia to push the population of the alliance states to take responsibility for security.
"And this is precisely intimidation, which is actually confirmed by the decision to increase defense spending to 5% by 2035," Maslennikov added.
On June 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the decision of NATO countries to increase defense spending would not have a significant impact on Russia's security. The minister noted that the decision to increase the alliance's military spending poses the main threat to taxpayers of EU countries, who will be forced to compensate for additional expenses.
