A 12-year-old patient with recurrent acute lymphoblastic leukemia underwent Russia's first industrial CAR-T therapy at the Morozovskaya Children's Hospital. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the child feels well and is already at home.

Sobyanin noted on the Telegram channel that a few days ago, doctors at the Morozov Hospital performed CAR-T therapy on the second child.

"Moscow is becoming one of the world's centers for the introduction of cellular technologies in the treatment of oncology. They give hope for recovery even in the most difficult cases," the mayor emphasized.

The essence of CAR-T therapy is that the patient's own immune system cells are "trained" to find and destroy cancer cells. To do this, they take T-lymphocytes from a person, modify them and return them to the body.

The innovative drug was manufactured at a pharmaceutical plant and purchased with a grant from the Moscow government, Sobyanin said.
