Estonia is ready to receive F-35 fighter jets from the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) capable of carrying nuclear weapons. This was announced on June 27 by the country's Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.

"If some of them, regardless of their country of origin, have the ability to carry dual-use nuclear weapons, this does not in any way affect our position on receiving the F-35. Of course, we are ready to receive allies," the Postimees newspaper quoted him as saying.

Pevkur added that F-35 fighter jets had previously visited Estonia and would soon be guarding the country's airspace again.

On June 24, it was reported that the United Kingdom plans to purchase 12 new F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons from the United States. It was clarified that the acquired equipment will be used as part of the NATO mission to create dual-use aircraft and strengthen the alliance's military deterrence capabilities.
