The orientalist pointed to Iran's doubts about the US nuclear program proposal

The US proposal to Tehran to allocate $30 billion for the development of a peaceful nuclear program in exchange for abandoning uranium enrichment raises doubts among the Iranian leadership. This was stated on June 27 by Sergey Balmasov, an expert at the Middle East Institute and an expert at the Russian Council on International Affairs (RIAC), in an interview with Izvestia.
He noted that it would be unwise to trust US President Donald Trump after his withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018.
"It would be rather strange to believe Trump and the United States, given their manner of very rapid changes. Therefore, I actually have doubts about the fact that the great Rahbar (Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei. — Ed.) he will fall for this case," Balmasov said.
Speaking about the possible consequences of the lack of guarantees from the United States, the expert stressed the inability of the American side, comparing negotiations with Washington to playing against an experienced cheater.
CNN reported on June 26 that the Trump administration, as part of its attempts to return to negotiations with Iran, is discussing the possibility of providing the Islamic Republic with access to up to $30 billion in funds for the development of a peaceful nuclear program. In return, Tehran must abandon uranium enrichment, this point is "non-negotiable."
President Trump's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said on June 24 that he was confident that the United States would conclude a comprehensive peace agreement with Iran. He added that the White House would not allow Tehran to enrich uranium under the terms of a potential agreement.
