A scuffle between police officers and priests took place near the residence of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on June 27.

"A scuffle between police officers and priests arose in the Mother See of Etchmiadzin," the Telegram channel says.

It was noted that law enforcement officers tried to enter the residence, but the priests did not allow them to do so.

According to Sputnik Armenia, security forces tried to detain Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan, head of the Shirak diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, but believers and priests did not allow him to be taken away. Currently, the situation at the Catholicos' residence remains extremely tense.

A criminal case was opened against Ajapakhyan on June 26. The reason was the archbishop's public statements about the political situation in the country.

In addition, on June 25, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the opposition movement "Holy Struggle", and 14 other people, his supporters, were detained in Armenia as part of a criminal case on an "attempt to seize power." On June 26, Galstanyan was arrested for two months.
