The increase in the Pentagon's military spending to $1.01 trillion is due to the need to counter the arms race with China. This was stated on June 27 by American political scientist Malek Dudakov in an interview with Izvestia.

He noted that in order to maintain the competitiveness of the United States, it is necessary to increase the production of weapons. According to him, the Pentagon is facing the problem of depleted stocks: there is currently a shortage of air defense missiles and artillery shells.

"The United States needs to focus on somehow increasing weapons production, and at the same time keep up in the arms race with China, which also has problems, of course, given that China is currently developing its hypersonic weapons at a rapid pace, and the Americans have problems with this.", — said the interlocutor.

Dudakov also expressed the opinion that relations between the United States and China will continue to deteriorate, and tensions should not be expected to decrease in the near future. He believes that both sides are already involved in a new cold war.

In addition, the political scientist drew attention to the global trend towards an increase in military spending.

"The Chinese are increasing their defense spending by 7-8% annually. Well, it also applies to other countries. This is Europe, of course, this is India, this is obvious, and the Middle East will now follow this example against the background of the current escalation," the expert stressed.
