The European Union (EU) countries intend to continue the initiative to abandon the import of Russian energy resources by 2028. This was announced on June 27 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Radio Kossuth.

At the same time, Orban clarified that Hungary and Slovakia oppose the EU's decision against the background of a likely increase in gas transit costs from other countries.

"And although we will be against it, this proposal will be accepted. In practice, this will mean that gas will not flow from East to West, and Slovakia will be supplied from other sources — from the north, south and west," he said.

On May 22, Orban called the EU's energy policy absurd and aimed at supporting Ukraine. Budapest's policy in this area, on the contrary, is aimed at making energy resources cheaper for the population. The head of the Hungarian government called for joint efforts to combat the energy threat from the association.
