Hungary's blocking of the first stage of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) will turn out badly for Kiev. This was stated on June 27 by the head of the European Parliament (EP) Roberta Metsola during a briefing broadcast on her YouTube channel.

"The issue concerns Ukraine's accession. We see at the moment that the process has been blocked because of Hungary's position," she said.

According to her, Ukraine's accession to the EU is supported by 26 of the 27 member states. She noted that only Hungary opposes this proposal, adding "Газета.Ru ".

"I think the worst message we could send to Ukraine <...> is that the European Union will turn away at this very, very important moment," Metsola said.

On June 26, it was reported that Hungary blocked the decision of the EU summit on Ukraine's membership in the community. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine should not be accepted into the EU and NATO. In his opinion, this decision will lead to a war between Western states and Russia.
