Australia has added the Terrorgram network of channels operating in the Telegram messenger to the list of banned organizations. This was announced on Friday, June 27, by the country's Interior Minister Tony Burke.

"We have officially included Terrorgram in the list of terrorist organizations," he wrote on his Facebook page.Twitter).

This decision will give the Australian government broad powers to limit the activities of extremists, Burke said.

"Online radicalization is becoming an increasingly serious threat, but the government has the tools, and we will use every one of them to ensure the safety of Australians," the minister added.

Terrorgram is an extreme right—wing network of Telegram channels that spread extremist ideas.

Earlier, on May 23, Reuters reported on plans to block Telegram in Vietnam. The country's authorities believe that 68% of the 9,600 Vietnamese Telegram channels and groups violate the law and are involved in fraud, drug trafficking and links with terrorists.
