For the first time, scientists from the Botanical Garden Institute of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) have successfully cloned a rare honey plant, the hairy acorn. This was announced on June 27 by the press service of the institution in the Telegram channel.

"For the first time, a rare honeybush, the hairy holly, was cloned in the botanical garden. There are very few of them left in the wild, and now 100 small clones have been grown in the laboratory!" the organization said.

Scientists said that initially the work was difficult — up to 40% of all sprouts died. However, after a year of experiments, it was possible to achieve stable growth and accelerate the development of samples.

The hairy holly is listed in the Red Book of 10 regions of the Russian Federation. It has the same status in the Republic of Belarus and Estonia.

Earlier, on August 20, scientists created the first cloned foal of a Peruvian horse. It is noted that the creation of the animal occurred with the help of somatic cell core transfer technology, which allows preserving the genetics of species of outstanding creatures.
