Sakhalin IC began checking on the fact of jumping on a scooter to a historical monument

The Investigative Committee (IC) has launched an investigation into the incident, during which a young man jumped on a scooter onto a monument, which is a historical site in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. This was announced on June 27 by the press service of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Sakhalin region.

"A procedural check is being conducted on this fact on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Desecration of symbols of military glory of Russia, insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland committed in public")," the department said.

Measures are currently being taken to establish the details and circumstances of the incident.

Public activists have proposed introducing life sentences for vandals acting for ideological reasons.

On June 5, the Investigative Committee began an investigation into the desecration of the Grieving Mother's stele by teenagers in Altai. The incident is being investigated in accordance with Article 214 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Vandalism").
