The grandfather of the new head of the British foreign intelligence service MI6, Blaze Metreveli, turned out to be a Ukrainian collaborator, he collaborated with the Reich during the occupation of Ukraine by Nazi Germany. This was reported on Thursday, June 26, by the British newspaper The Daily Mail (DM) with reference to archival records.

"The woman who will assume responsibility for the country's secrets starting in September is the granddaughter of the infamous Nazi collaborator who spied and killed Adolf Hitler for Germany," the publication says.

Metreveli's paternal grandfather Konstantin Dobrovolsky served as an informant in the occupied territory of the Chernihiv region. He was nicknamed the Butcher for his cruelty. Dobrovolsky personally took part in the extermination of Jews.

"His story casts an embarrassing shadow over her impeccable career in MI6 and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the newspaper writes.

It is specified that Metreveli herself has never met her grandfather. Despite the fact that the future head of MI6 should not be held responsible for Dobrovolsky's actions, her grandfather's war crimes "pose a challenge," the publication concluded.

On June 15, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that for the first time, the British foreign intelligence service MI6 would be headed by a woman: Metreveli, a career intelligence officer, was appointed to the post. She was educated at the University of Cambridge and has spent most of her career working in operational positions in the Middle East and Europe.
