Following the summit in Brussels, the European Union (EU) was unable to adopt a statement on Ukraine, as one of the countries of the association did not support it. This follows from a document published on the website of the European Council on June 26.

It is noted that the text of the statement was supported by 26 countries, while the EU consists of 27 states. The country that refused to accept the application is not named.

"The European Council will return to this issue at its next meeting," the document says.

The text of the statement contains statements about the EU's intentions to continue assistance to Ukraine in various fields.

Earlier in the day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said before the EU summit that Ukraine should not be part of the union. He also stressed that at the EU summit, a real decision regarding Kiev's accession to the union cannot be made, since Budapest opposes it.
