The creation of a park on the site of the Moscow Monorail will begin at the end of June.

The monorail in Moscow will be completed on June 28, 2025. In its place, Russia's first year-round park at altitude will be created. This was announced on Thursday, June 26, according to the website of the Moscow City Hall.

This idea was supported by more than 71% of the voting participants on the Active Citizen platform, the Moscow City News agency notes.

The park will connect five districts, where about 300 thousand people live. The new space is scheduled to open in 2027. Part of the overpass will be dismantled, writes NSN.

The department also noted that the monorail has full—fledged alternatives - metro, MCC and land transport. All employees of the monorail system will be offered new jobs.

The metropolitan monorail, built more than 20 years ago, has not become a full-fledged element of the transport network. A routine inspection showed that the system needs major repairs, Moscow 24 notes.

On June 25, Yakov Yakubovich, an expert at the Institute of Fundamental Problems of Socio-Humanitarian Sciences at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, said that the transformation of the old monorail in Moscow into a park was an unusual and bold decision.
