The Spanish Prime Minister pointed to double standards in EU policy.

There are double standards in European politics, which can be seen in the example of the current situation in Israel, as well as decisions on sanctions against Russia. This was announced by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on June 26 before the start of the one-day summit of the European Union (EU) countries in Brussels.
Sanchez noted that after what the authorities of the Jewish state have done regarding human rights, the EU should immediately suspend the agreement with Jerusalem.
"It is more than obvious that Israel is violating Article 2 of the EU-Israel Partnership Agreement on human rights. Today, in the European Council, I will advocate for Europe to suspend this agreement. And we need to do this immediately," the politician said. His comment is available on the website of the European Commission (EC).
He also added that against this background, sanctions against Russia for actions in Ukraine are absolutely meaningless.
"It makes no sense to impose 18 sets of sanctions against Russia for its actions in Ukraine. Europe adheres to double standards and is not even able to suspend the Association Agreement with Israel when Article 2 on human rights is grossly violated by, in this case, Israel," Sanchez said.
On June 23, the Bild newspaper noted that the head of the European Diplomacy, Kai Kallas, wanted to propose at a meeting of EU foreign ministers to discuss the suspension of the Partnership Agreement with Israel from 2000 and economic sanctions against it. It was reported that the EU diplomatic service sees signs of a violation by the country of its human rights obligations under the agreement with the bloc. However, the Jerusalem government considered the EU report "one-sided" and called it an example of double standards towards Israel.
