- A toxicologist has stated the benefits of bacteria on the skin to protect against the sun

Mikhail Kutushov, a toxicologist, PhD, said that the bacteria on the skin protect against the sun better than SPF.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, June 26, he explained that the skin microbiome is not a passive one, but a full-fledged participant in the body's immune defense. According to him, people are used to protecting themselves from the sun from the outside with clothes and creams, but now it becomes clear that the body has its own internal defense mechanisms. Bacteria, as the expert emphasized, are not just satellites, but active allies.
Previously, the skin was considered only a physical barrier, but now it has become clear that its microbiome regulates immune processes, including the reaction to ultraviolet radiation. This is especially important given the growth of autoimmune and oncological diseases associated with immune disorders.
"Instead of simple protection from the sun, we need to strengthen our own biological resources. Taking care of the microbiome may become an integral part of the approach to skin health in the near future," Kutushov emphasized.
Scientists from the University of Washington conducted a study and concluded that some skin bacteria neutralize the harm of UVB rays by breaking down cis-urocanoic acid, which provokes inflammation and suppresses the immune system.
Earlier on June 26, infectious disease specialist Maria Rybalko said that small cuts can be dangerous in hot weather. She explained that sweating increases in the heat, which increases the risk of secondary infection of even small cuts and abrasions, writes RT. At the slightest injury to the skin, she called for rinsing the wound with clean water and treating it with any antiseptic.
On June 25, dermatologist Regina Buldakova warned against tanning for skin diseases. According to her, one of the frequent consequences of excessive sun exposure is photodermatitis, accompanied by itching, redness, blisters and peeling of the skin, notes 360.ru .
On June 24, the doctor, Professor Natalia Sheina, in an interview with the newspaper.Ru" advised to gradually adapt to the sun on vacation. According to her, if you spend a lot of time in the sun on the first day, severe skin burns can have serious consequences, including the development of cancer, the website writes kp.ru .
On June 19, NSN wrote that it was safe to sunbathe before 10:00 and after 16:00. Be sure to use sunscreen, wear a hat and close clothing. In case of burns, go into the shade, drink water, and in case of severe damage, consult a doctor.
In May, pharmaceutical expert Irina Ulyanova told how a cream with SPF protection affects the synthesis of vitamin D. So, even when using a sunscreen with SPF 15 applied in sufficient quantity to prevent burns, the concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 in the blood serum increases.
