- The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed to a challenge to the NPT regime due to the actions of the United States and Israel in Iran

The United States and Israel are responsible for the damage caused to the reputation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in connection with the conflict over Iran. This was announced on June 26 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"This is not only about unprovoked aggression against a sovereign state, but also about undermining the global nuclear non—proliferation regime, the main one of which, as you know, is the nuclear non-proliferation treaty," she stressed at a briefing.
According to her, the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran's nuclear facilities, which are under the control of the IAEA, have become "an undisguised challenge to the system." The diplomat stressed that Washington and Tel Aviv are responsible for the damage to the IAEA's activities, despite their attempts to blame Tehran.
Zakharova noted that Russia welcomes the statements by Israel and Iran about their readiness to observe the ceasefire. She also expressed the hope that the "flywheel of the most dangerous military escalation" launched after the strikes by Israel and the United States would be stopped.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the nuclear nonproliferation regime had suffered as a result of the actions of Israel and the United States in the Middle East against Iran. The minister also expressed concern about Israel's recent statements about the continuation of the operation against Iran in the future.
