Integration into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is attracting more and more countries, and the states of Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America are showing interest. Boris Titov, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Relations with international organizations for achieving sustainable Development Goals, told Izvestia on June 26.

"They accept in spirit what we are doing <...>. An alternative center is being created, in which all countries are [present], and there are no dominating agendas over them. They can participate as equal partners in joint development programs — this is called sustainable development, when everyone is equal," he said.

According to Titov, a lot of work has been done both in the EAEU as a whole and in individual member states.

"And in recent years, individual economies have shown their resilience, proven their professional aptitude and combat capabilities. In general, the economic situation today is going in a positive direction and [there are] very serious improvements," said the special representative of the president.

At the same time, he continued, there are still issues that need to be resolved in the field of logistics.

"The groundwork has already been made: This includes the Northern Sea Route, the Eastern Training Ground, and the North-South logistics program, which is being implemented today. Today we must be very close to each other in this sense, and our logistical ties must be the most effective in order for our economy to develop," he added.

In the field of settlements, according to Titov, work is underway to establish an efficient and cheap system of mutual payments. In particular, the issue of tokenized currencies is being discussed.

"This is a single system: national, digital currencies, but specially made for external payments, not for the domestic market. All of them are made according to a single program and on the same database, so they are converted into each other, and a single settlement center is being created," he explained.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Ambassador to Belarus Alireza Sanei noted the great potential for the development of economic relations with the EAEU. According to him, thanks to the agreement on a free trade zone between Iran and the EAEU, many customs tariffs have either been reduced or lifted, which also helps to develop economic relations.
