The main alumni celebration "Scarlet Sails" will take place in St. Petersburg on June 28. On this day, the governor of the city and the pop stars will congratulate the graduates from the stage, and the culmination of the show will be the passage of the brig Rossiya along the Neva River under a colorful fireworks display. Every year, the legendary prom is watched by millions of people around the world. Izvestia tells us when the holiday will begin and where it will be shown live in 2025.
Traditionally, celebrations will be held on the Palace Square and in the Neva River. The holiday will be opened by the governor of the city Alexander Beglov with a welcoming speech to the graduates. There will also be a festive concert featuring famous hits united by a common theme. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, the leitmotif of all musical numbers will be the victory of good over evil. Also, for the first time, artists of the water theater will take part in the event.
After midnight, a water and pyrotechnic show will begin in the Neva River. The culmination will be the appearance of the brig Rossiya under scarlet sails. It will start at the Senate Square, pass through the open gate of the Palace Bridge, make a 360-degree turn at the Winter Groove, then continue moving towards the Trinity Bridge to greet all graduates. The return route of the brig will run from Troitsky to the Palace Bridge along the Palace Embankment.
Residents and guests of the city will be able to admire the spectacle. The best places to watch are cafes, restaurants and hotels located near the epicenter of the celebration. Only graduates, their close relatives and teachers will be able to get to the holiday itself.
The rest will have the opportunity to watch the live broadcast of the event. The event will start at 22:00 Moscow time. At the same time, there will be a live broadcast from the Palace Square. Traditionally, Channel Five will broadcast, including on the channel's website and official social media accounts.
Filming will be conducted with a dozen cameras so that viewers can see the highlights of the holiday from the best angles. All theatrical performances are also staged taking into account the television format. The show usually lasts for several hours and ends after midnight.
The history of the Scarlet Sails dates back to 1968, when the country celebrated the 265th anniversary of the city on the Neva. However, after 11 years, the tradition was interrupted. The holiday moved from Leningrad to Sestroretsk and gradually lost its former scale. The celebration was resumed in 2005 at the initiative of the Government of St. Petersburg, ROSSIYA Joint Stock Bank and Channel Five. Since then, the "Scarlet Sails" have been held annually during the white nights, becoming the hallmark not only of the Northern Capital, but also of the whole of Russia.
Earlier, Izvestia told how the Scarlet Sails alumni celebration was held in Mariupol.
