Russia is not going to attack NATO countries because it could lead to a nuclear war. Alexey Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma's International Affairs Committee, expressed this opinion on Thursday, June 26, commenting on US President Donald Trump's statement that as long as he is president, Russia will not attack the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Earlier in the day, The Washington Post (WP) newspaper wrote, citing European officials, that Trump had stated that Russia posed no threat to NATO as long as he remained as leader of the United States. 360.ru .

"We were never going to attack anyone," Chepa said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Chepa stressed that Russia's attack on NATO countries is impossible because it could lead to a nuclear war.

"We understand what all this will lead to, that's why Europe and the United States are well aware of this politically. And these statements by Trump reassure the whole world. Trump says: I am not only the messiah in the United States, I am the messiah for the whole world, I have solved the issue in the Middle East, I am solving the issue in Ukraine, I am solving issues of peace on earth while I am president. Therefore, if you support me as president, everything will be fine," he concluded.

On June 5, The National Interest magazine dispelled the myth of a "threat" to NATO from the Russian Federation. It was noted that Russia does not intend to attack the states of the alliance due to the fact that it has no strategic motive in spreading the conflict.

In addition, on June 24, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that NATO was aiming at aggression and confrontation against Russia, as well as following the path of "frenzied militarization," RT reports.
