- Bloomberg talked about the humiliation of NATO leaders at the Hague summit in front of Trump

During the alliance's summit in The Hague, NATO leaders humiliated themselves in front of US President Donald Trump and expressed agreement with his point of view. This was reported on June 26 by Bloomberg with reference to columnist Max Hastings.
"They (the heads of NATO countries. They are trying their best to do business with the most powerful man on earth, they are obliged to humiliate themselves, to indulge, to express consent when secretly many do not agree," the article says.
According to the newspaper, at the last summit, the alliance members were forced to tell the American leader "what he wanted to hear" in order to gain Trump's support and avoid the threat of the United States withdrawing from the North Atlantic Alliance.
At the same time, at the summit itself, the participants did not pretend to discuss a "global strategy", but "desperately demonstrated NATO's desire" to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP.
The day before, the newspaper Politico reported that European officials used the tactics of flattery to the US president at the NATO summit to win him over to their side. It was noted that for the same purpose, the organizers abandoned long communiques following the meeting.
