The Chinese ship An Yang 2, which ran aground near the city of Nevelsk, may be put to sea in August 2025. This was announced on Thursday, June 26, by Alexander Glaub, Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Management of the Sakhalin Region.

"The owner plans to start removing property from the water area of the port of Nevelsk in August under favorable weather conditions," he was quoted as saying on the ministry's website.

They clarified that the ship's decommissioning project was developed in accordance with the Code of Merchant Shipping of the Russian Federation. The document was sent for consideration by the supervisory authority and the port management.

The Chinese ship An Yang 2 ran aground in the Nevelsky district of the Sakhalin Region on February 8. It was reported that there are 20 people on board the ship. According to the Izvestia source, the bulk carrier did not send a distress signal. The head of the region, Valery Limarenko, said that adverse weather conditions prevented rescue services from approaching him.

Rosmorrechflot spokeswoman Yulia Balykova noted that there were 706 tons of fuel oil on AN YANG 2, which remained intact. She clarified that the bulk carrier was carrying 1,000 tons of coal, and confirmed that there was no threat to the life of the crew. Rescuers of the Sakhalin branch of the Maritime Rescue Service found no traces of oil spill and pollution of the water area.
