Employees of the linear Department (LO) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the river port of Novosibirsk have initiated 11 criminal cases under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal extraction (fishing) of aquatic biological resources") against poachers violating the spawning ban period. The violators caused damage of almost 500 thousand rubles, the Siberian Transport Police reported on June 26 in the Telegram channel.

"Transport police seized 23 prohibited fishing gear — nets, six swimming vessels used for illegal fishing, and more than 350 specimens of fish, including sterlet, bream, perch and pike," the department said.

The law enforcement officers also reported on the suppression of more than 30 violations provided for in Part 2 of Article 8.37 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules governing fishing").

Earlier, on March 6, a scheme of illegal trade in black caviar was uncovered in the Khabarovsk Territory. It was established that a resident of the Moscow region offered a friend to illegally purchase caviar of sturgeon fish in the Khabarovsk Territory, and then sell it in Moscow. Later, five more people joined the group.
