The U.S. Attorney's office has filed charges of smuggling Russian scientist Petrova

Russian scientist Ksenia Petrova has been charged with smuggling frogs to the United States, as well as with concealing facts and giving false testimony. This was announced on June 25 by the prosecutor's office of the U.S. state of Massachusetts in a press release.
"Ksenia Petrova, 31, a Russian citizen, was charged with one count of concealing a material fact, one count of making a false statement, and one count of smuggling goods into the United States," the statement said.
The charge of smuggling goods into the United States is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
In April, Bloomberg reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump refused to release Petrova. As indicated, the country's authorities refused to grant the Russian scientist parole because they considered that she posed a security threat to the United States.
On May 14, the scientist was placed under arrest, but then released on bail.
